Today, we decided to take a trip to Volo Bog, one of the region's most unique and treasured ecological sites. Fairly low-key, the bog is a fascinating place unlike any I have previously visited. It is also home to millions of hungry ticks - bring your bug repellent (we didn't, but we'll be absolutely sure to next time!). We brought Cassius along and walked the entire 2.75 mile trail encircling the bog. It was quite a hike - from bog to woodland to savanna to open prairie and everything in between. I'll be back to further explore the bog walkway.
Young snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina), found near the parking lot.
Massive oak in the distance
One of the many ticks that tried to hitch a ride
